How to Ace Your Next Job Interview
為了成功拿下你的下一個工作面試機會,以下小技巧將可以有效幫助你打動面試官,和一些工作的小技巧喔!
There’s an old adage: “Success is 90% preparation and only 10% perspiration.” This couldn’t be truer for job interviews. In order to ace your next job interview, it’s vital to be well prepared. Here are some tips for helping you impress your interviewer and land the job you want.
Develop your personal brand
When there are so many people applying for the same jobs, you need to make a great first impression, and make the interviewer remember you.
To develop your personal brand, first, define who you are, and what you do best. What kind of person are you? How do people describe you? What do you do that’s better than everyone else? Then, figure out how you’re different from everyone else. What unique talents do you have? How do you think differently than the rest? What makes you stand out?
You could even create your own tagline to sum up what you do, as well as how or why you do it. For example: “I’m a communicator and a connector. I make great things happen by bringing different people and cultures together.”
Have an interview kit
One great strategy for any interview is to prepare an interview kit. What’s an interview kit, you ask? It includes all the things you need for an interview. That means multiple copies of your resume, the address and contact information for the company you’re visiting, a bottle of water, pens or pencils, a notepad, and anything else you may need to make the whole experience more comfortable for you.
Do your homework
One of the best ways to impress an interviewer, and show your genuine interest for the job, is to prove that you’ve done your homework. It’s essential to study up on the company before going for the interview, especially the company’s history and current events.
Not only do you need to know about the company you’re applying for, but you also need to know the job description of the position. What are the tasks and responsibilities involved? Can you come up with any questions about the job description?
Know your resume well
Here’s one thing that makes you look totally incompetent: the interviewer asks you about something on your resume, and you have to look at your own resume to provide an answer! You should know every single word on your resume, and if you don’t, then get studying. You should be able to answer anything about your resumeoff the top of your head.
Use concrete examples
Everyone says that they’re reliable and hard-working. Everyone says that they’re a fast-learner and a problem-solver. Well, prove it! Your interviewer will only believe you if you give concrete examples of how you were reliable in a demanding situation, or how you switched into high gear to meet a tight deadline.
Build rapport
There’s another famous adage that holds a lot of truth: “There’s never a second chance to make a first impression.” The more you build rapport with the interviewer, the better your chances of getting the job. First of all, make sure you present a firm handshake, have a great smile, and make eye contact. Another small thing you can do to build rapport is to make some small talk. You could compliment the interviewer on how nice their office is. You could also simply ask how they are doing, or how their day is going so far.
Present confidence
Confidence breeds success, and employers know this. Companies want to hire workers who are confident in their skills and abilities. Before you walk into the room, take some deep breaths, imagine yourself having a great conversation with the interviewer, and tell yourself something positive, such as, “I’m going to have a great interview, and I’m an excellent choice for this position.”
Then, when you do walk in the room, stand up straight, keep your head up, and take your hands out of your pockets. When you sit down, sit properly, make eye contact, and don’t fidget or move around too much. What your body is doing says way more than the words you speak.
Follow up quickly
Send a thank you note immediately after the interview. The sooner you send one, the better. This could be a simple email, but perhaps a handwritten note or card would make you even more memorable; it’s more personal, and nobody else really does it. In your message, say how great it was to meet the interviewer, and how you would be a benefit to the company. If possible, offer something of value, such as a follow-up to something you mentioned during your conversation.
Interview Your Interviewer
An interview is not just a time for the company to learn about you, but also for you to learn about the company. They want to see if you are a good fit for the company, and you want to see if the position is a good fit for you. Moreover, this is your chance to show that you value your own time, and that you’re looking for a mutually beneficial working relationship.
Now you have some strategies and tactics you can use to ace your next job interview. Practice makes perfect, and each interview you do will be easier than the last. Use some of these tips to help you. Just remember to be yourself, and don’t try to be somebody you’re not.
